This home white knit gamer by Maska was worn by Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson during the 1979-80 NHL season. Robinson enjoyed a 20-year NHL career and spent the first 17 of those seasons with Montreal, where he won 7 Stanley Cups. Larry was the 1978 Conn Smythe Trophy winner as playoff MVP and also captured 2 Norris Trophies as the NHL’s best defenseman. Robinson was 6-times a 1st or 2nd team NHL All Star on defense and was a regular participant in the NHL All Star game throughout his 2 decade long career, playing in 10 of them.
Larry also starred when the international spotlight was on, playing for Team Canada in 4 different Canada Cups while also taking part in those memorable New Year’s Eve Super Series contests against the Soviets during the Cold War era. He is considered one of the game’s all-time greats and was so recognized in the now revered ‘The Hockey News’ book which ranked the 50 greatest players in NHL history. Larry was honored as the 24th greatest player in NHL history in that publication. This spectacular vintage offering shows the rigors of what NHL life was like back in the day.
Game use is heavy with stick marks, board burns, that recognizable Montreal Forum board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, heavy inner pilling and a resounding 70+ team sewn repairs. The neck of this gamer has been custom vented and a repair lies just beneath it leaving one to speculate that fight abuse could be the culprit. “Big Bird” was integral to the Canadiens dominance and this is clearly one of the nicest Robinson’s in the hobby, superb!
