1979-80 Kim Clackson Pittsburgh Penguins Game Worn Jersey
Lot #301
GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of vintage enforcers jerseys to the hobby exclusively thru our Spring 2017 Auction. These 16 NHL and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players, some that are being offered at auction for the first time!

This road blue mesh and knit gamer by Stall and Dean was worn by Kim Clackson during the 1979-80 NHL season. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Clackson in the 5th round of the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. He was simultaneously selected in the 2nd round of the 1975 WHA Amateur Draft by the Minnesota Fighting Saints. Clackson decided to begin his professional career in the WHA and spent 4 seasons representing the Indianapolis Racers and Winnipeg Jets. In 298 WHA regular season and playoff games played, Clackson registered 1045 PIMS! His single season career best came as a rookie with Indy in 1975-76 where in 77 games he amassed 351 PIMS! Clackson joined the Pittsburgh Penguins, who still held his rights, following the merger. Kim spent one season in Pittsburgh where, in 48 regular season and playoff games combined, he recorded 203 PIMS. He spent one final season with the Quebec Nordiques and again eclipsed the 200 PIMS mark. In 114 NHL regular season and playoff games combined, Clackson rang up 440 PIMS.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the manufacturer’s, wash, size and year tagging. The game wear on this size 52 sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, inner pilling, trauma, a torn and repaired front collar, a well worn fight strap and several additional team-sewn repairs. These “Blue Penguins” gamers featured elasticized sleeve cuffs, a sewn on crest and sewn on lettering. This set marked the end of the “Blue Penguins” era in the Steel City as the team shifted to the black and gold color scheme to be cohesive with the World Champion Steelers and Pirates. These vintage gamers are becoming tougher and tougher to find as they near their 40th birthday. A nice example worn by this former NHL and WHA tough guy.
