Description
1979-80 Gord Lane Washington Capitals Game Worn Jersey
Lot #106

This road red knit gamer by Maska was worn by Gord Lane during the 1979-80 NHL season. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Lane in the 9th round of the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft. Lane made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals in 1975-76 where he played for parts of 5 seasons. During the 1979-80 season, Lane was dealt to the New York Islanders where he played for the next 6 years until retirement. Gordie played for the Stanley Cup in each of his first 5 years as a member of the Islanders and walked away with 4 Stanley Cup Rings as the Islanders attained Dynasty status. Lane was a tough defenseman who wasn’t afraid to drop the gloves. In 540 career games played, Gordie amassed 1228 PIMS. He also added another 214 PIMS in 75 lifetime playoff games.

The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, fine inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. The original diminutive cloth loop style fight strap remains sewn to the inner verso. The nameplate has undergone a change and it remains possible that after Lane was traded, Glen Currie wore this sweater upon his arrival until the end of the season. The Capitals were notorious for stripping nameplates and we believe that this one was sewn back onto the sweater, as Currie’s was likely reused on another one of his jerseys. A nice example that was worn by this 4-time Stanley Cup champ and features the first year of the Maska logo in the nations capitol.
