This road red mesh gamer by Russell Athletic was issued for use by Earl Ingarfield during the 1979-80 NHL season, and was possibly worn before its preparation for Ingarfield. This Regina native made his NHL debut in 1979-80 with the Atlanta Flames. Ingarfield’s playing career lasted merely two seasons. He transferred with the franchise from Atlanta to Calgary where he played for 16 games in 1980-81 before being dealt to the Detroit Red Wings where he played the final 22 games of his NHL career later that season. Earl’s father, also named Earl Ingarfield, spent 13 seasons in the NHL spanning the late 1950’s thru the early 1970’s. The first 9 of those years were spent with the New York Rangers.
The wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes and fine inner pilling. The original loop style fight strap remains sewn to the lower interior verso. Evidence of a nameplate change is worthy of mention. Ingarfield partook in just one regular season and two playoff games as a rookie; it was indicated to us that he played those games on home ice at the Omni. Of note, John Gould wore the player number 21 during the 1978-79 season. A nice example that hails from the final season of the long defunct Atlanta Flames franchise.
