1979-80 Denis Champagne Montreal Juniors Game Worn Jersey - Rookie
Lot #229

This road red knit gamer by Maska was worn by Denis Champagne during the 1979-80 QMJHL season, his rookie year. Champagne was a tough guy who spent three seasons with the Montreal Juniors. The 1979-80 Juniors season was an exciting one as famed HOF alum, Denis Savard (pictured above) led the team in scoring on his way to being the 3rd overall Draft choice by the Chicago Blackhawks the following summer. Champagne made his QMJHL debut and wore this sweater during road games as a rookie. Champagne finished second on the team in penalty minutes; compiling 201 PIMS in 81 regular season and playoff games combined. He compiled 412 PIMS in 142 career games played with the Juniors.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer are the Maska Superfil and wash instruction tagging. The game wear on this size 48 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, fine inner pilling and 8 team-sewn repairs, including a couple inch long vertical sew job on the upper verso. The original blue striped garter style fight strap remains sewn to the inside while a beautiful and short-lived red, white and blue tackle twill crest boldly adorns the front.
