1979-80 Charlie Simmer Los Angeles Kings Game Worn Jersey - 1st Team NHL All Star - League Leading 56-Goal Season
Lot #48

This road purple and gold mesh gamer by Goodman & Sons was worn by Charlie Simmer during the 1979-80 NHL season. The California Golden Seals selected Simmer in the 3rd round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. Simmer made his NHL debut in 1974-75 with the Golden Seals. After 2 years with the Seals and another with the Cleveland Barons, Charlie joined the Los Angeles Kings where he would form the LW side of the famed Triple Crown Line. Skating alongside Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne and Dave Taylor did wonders for Simmer’s game. Charlie became a goal-scoring machine, averaging well in excess of a point per game during his more than 7 seasons with the Kings. He netted 56 goals in back to back seasons for LA, despite missing a fair number of games to injury and also took a serious run in 1980-81 at Maurice Rocket Richard’s record of 50-Goals in 50-Games, falling a goal shy of the mark. In 1984, Simmer moved onto Boston where he skated for 3 years before spending a final season with the Penguins in 1987-88. Simmer ended his 712-game career with 342 goals and 711 points. He was the 1986 recipient of the Bill Masterton Trophy, was twice a 1st Team NHL All Star and played in 2 NHL All Star Games.

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, a number of board burns and heavy inner pilling. Simmer was magnificent and enjoyed a breakout season in 1979-80 while wearing this sweater during road games. Despite playing in only 64 games, Charlie scored a league leading 56 goals and added 45 assists for 101 points while going an impressive +47! A terrific vintage purple and gold example from the prime of the Triple Crown Line as Simmer scored a league leading 56 goals and earned 1st Team NHL All Star honors.
