1979-80 Bobby Schmautz Colorado Rockies Game Worn Jersey
Lot #48

This home white mesh gamer by Champion was worn by Bobby Schmautz during the 1979-80 NHL season. Schmautz began his career in 1967 with the Chicago Black Hawks where he played for a couple of years before becoming a member of the expansion Vancouver Canucks in 1970-71. Schmautz remained with the club for parts of 4 seasons before being dealt to the Boston Bruins in 1973-74. Bobby would spend the next 7 seasons in Beantown. During his 7-year stint in Boston, Schmautz played in 3 Stanley Cup Finals and led the NHL in playoff goal scoring, lighting the lamp 11 times during the 1977 postseason. Two trades during the 1979-80 season took Schmautz from Boston to Edmonton and then onto Colorado where he teamed up with his former Boston coach Don Cherry. He was signed as a free agent by the Canucks prior to the 1980-81 season, which was his final year in the league.

Schmautz scored a career best 38 goals and added 137 PIMS for the Canucks in 1972-73. He represented Vancouver in the 1973 and 1974 NHL All Star Games. He wrapped up his career with an impressive 271 goals and 557 points and the admiration of fans in both Boston and Vancouver, where he spent the majority of his playing days.

The game wear on this size 48 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, plenty of board paint transfer, un-repaired holes and inner pilling. The original garter style fight strap remains affixed to the inner verso. Bobby suited up for just 20 games as a member of the Colorado Rockies, lighting the lamp 9 times and adding 4 assists for a total of 13 points. Most impressive though may be that he accumulated 53 PIMS in those 20 games! The Rockies wore Champion made gamers during their first couple of seasons as a franchise and we surmise this sweater was hastily made up for Schmautz upon his arrival from Edmonton. A wonderful vintage example, worn by this 2-time NHL All Star during his brief stint representing this long defunct team.
