This blue knit gamer by Athletic Knit was worn by Willie Huber during the 1978 World Junior Championships. The Detroit Red Wings selected Huber in the 1st round of the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft. Huber made his NHL debut in 1978-79 with the Red Wings where he played for the first 5 years of his NHL career. Willie went on to spend parts of 5 seasons with the Rangers, and then played briefly with the Canucks and Flyers before retiring. Huber was an NHL All Star who passed away at age 52 in 2010.
The 1978 World Junior Championships gave most of Canada their first glimpse of Wayne Gretzky. Offered here is Willie Huber’s blue game worn jersey from those memorable tournament games. The game wear on this size 46 Team Canada sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns and heavy inner pilling. Shown above are some beautiful video highlights of Huber wearing this exact jersey during the 1978 World Junior Championships. A nice vintage international offering, from the NHL All Star’s pre-rookie days and having been worn alongside Wayne Gretzky in his debut to the nation.
