1978-80 Gary Rissling Washington Capitals Pre-season Game Worn Jersey
Lot #44
This home white dureen gamer by Wilson was likely worn by Gary Rissling during the 1978-79 or 1979-80 pre-season and/or training camp. This Saskatoon native made his NHL debut in 1978-79 with the Washington Capitals. Following two years with the Caps, this on-ice terror joined the Pittsburgh Penguins where he skated for the remaining five years of his 7-year NHL career. This 5’9” 175 lb. spark-plug is one of the most beloved enforcers of his era. In 221 NHL games played, Rissling amassed 1008 PIMS! During his illustrious minor league career, Rissling played in 461 games and accumulated an astounding 2245 PIMS; which when combined with his NHL totals tally up to an incredible 3253 PIMS!

Light but obvious game wear exists on this size 46 sweater with lovable balled up inner pilling that is only found on dureen’s most worthy of mention. A custom triple reinforced fight strap has been sewn to the inner verso. The 1978-79 season saw Rissling start the year in Hershey where, in 52 games, he amassed 337 PIMS. Gary would make his NHL regular season debut later that same year. In 26 games as an NHL rookie, he accumulated another 127 PIMS, giving him a combined 464 PIMS in 78 regular season games between Hershey and Washington! Rissling jerseys have been a near impossible get over the years with this being just the second we’ve had the pleasure to handle. A nice vintage enforcer’s gamer that hails from the beginning of Rissling’s rambunctious NHL career.
