1978-79 Pierre Larouche Montreal Canadiens Game Worn Jerey Stanley Cup Season - Photo Match
Lot #29

This road red dureen gamer by Wilson was worn by Pierre Larouche during the 1978-79 Stanley Cup winning season. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Larouche with the 8th overall pick in the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. Pierre spent parts of four seasons with the Penguins where, in his second year in the league, he scored 53 goals and 111 points. During his 4th season, Pierre was dealt to the powerhouse Montreal Canadiens. Larouche would go on to win the Stanley Cup in each of his first two years Montreal. Pierre again joined the 50-goal club with his new team, scoring an even 50 in 1979-80. He would spend parts of 5 years with Les Habitants before a trade sent him to the Hartford Whalers midway thru the 1981-82 season.

After parts of two seasons with Hartford, Larouche joined the New York Rangers where he remained for the final five years of his NHL career. In 1983-84, Larouche scored 48 goals, narrowly missing the 50-goal mark for his third different team. Over the course of a 14-year NHL career, this gifted scorer netted 395 goals and 822 points in 812 games played. Larouche was a two-time Stanley Cup Champion who played in two NHL All Star Games.

Sewn into the hem of this gamer is the chain-stitched “78” year tag. The game wear on this size 44 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, heavy inner pilling and well in excess of a dozen team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Larouche wearing this exact jersey during the 1978-79 season. The original garter style fight strap is sewn just beneath the back player numbers while a nameplate reattachment is also worthy of mention, a commonality with this set. A tremendous well-worn photo matched example hailing from the season that saw the Montreal Canadiens officially become a Dynasty as they won their 4th consecutive Stanley Cup!
