1978-79 Paul Baxter WHA Quebec Nordiques Game Worn Jersey
Lot #703

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of game worn enforcers and tough guys to the hobby exclusively thru our Fall 2017 Auction. These 14 NHL and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players and styles, some which are being offered at auction for the first time!

This home white mesh gamer was worn by Paul Baxter during the 1978-79 WHA season. The Cleveland Crusaders selected Baxter with the 11th overall pick in the 1974 WHA Amateur Draft. The following season saw the Pittsburgh Penguins select Baxter in the 3rd round of the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. This enforcer compiled some legendary PIMS totals including a career single season best of 409 PIMS in 1981-82 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. That’s the 2nd highest total in NHL history and Baxter is one of only 3 players to have accomplished the feat. Baxter began his career with the WHA’s Cleveland Crusaders in 1974-75. He spent 5 years in the WHA playing for Cleveland and Quebec. When the WHA collapsed, Baxter and the Nordiques joined the NHL. Paul played a lone NHL season with Quebec and then spent 3 years with the Pittsburgh Penguins and finished up his playing days with 4 seasons in Calgary, which included a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. Baxter’s combined WHA and NHL career saw him amass a most impressive 2526 PIMS in 762 games played!

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, fight abuse with an entire collars worth of stretching and stitch pops, washed out bloodstains, and inner pilling. On the inside back hem is a beautiful black sharpie signature in Baxter’s own hand. A nice example of this legendary bad boy hailing from the WHA’s last season.
