1978-79 Michel Goulet WHA Birmingham Bulls Game Worn Jersey - Rookie
Lot #16
This home white mesh gamer by Russell Athletic was worn by Michel Goulet during the 1978-79 WHA season, his rookie year. Goulet was Quebec’s 1st round selection in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. He was part of the NHL expansion, beginning his NHL career in 1979-80 following the collapse of the WHA, where his playing career began with the Birmingham Bulls. Goulet was among the finest Left Wingers of his generation, and in NHL history for that matter. He netted a spectacular 548 goals and 1152 points during a 15-year NHL career. Michel’s goal totals from the period of 1981-82 thru 1987-88 is an impressive read, 42, 57, 56, 55, 53, 49 and 48 respectively. He was 5-times a 1st or 2nd team NHL All Star and also played in 5 NHL All Star games. Michel represented Team Canada during both the 1984 and 1987 Canada Cup’s while representing Team NHL during Rendezvous ’87 against the Russians. Michel’s career ended prematurely as he suffered a vicious head injury during the 1993-94 season, while a member of the Chicago Blackhawks.

This Hall of Fame winger wore this amazing jersey during his rookie season, it being the only year he played in the WHA. In 78 games played with the Birmingham Bulls, this then 18-year old lit the lamp 28 times and added 30 assists for a total of 58 points while wearing this spectacular gamer on home ice.

The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains and heavy inner pilling. The all-original nameplate with sewn on lettering is also a treat worthy of mention. A stunning well-worn sweater, worn by a then 18-year old future Hall of Famer during his rookie season, choice!
