Lot #194

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to bring this exciting collection of game worn enforcers, tough guys and instigators to the hobby exclusively thru our Spring 2019 Auction. These 10 NHL, WHA and minor league game worn jerseys have been held in a private collection since being purchased beginning nearly 20 years ago and have been out of hobby circulation ever since. Included in this group of legendary tough guys are some extremely difficult to find players and styles, most which are being offered at auction for the first time!

This road green mesh gamer by Stall & Dean was worn by Jeff Brubaker during the 1978-79 WHA season, his rookie year. The Boston Bruins selected Brubaker in the 6th round of the 1978 NHL Entry Draft. This notorious tough guy from Hagerstown, MD played his college hockey at Michigan State University. Brubaker chose the WHA over the NHL at the outset of his career and spent time with the WHA’s New England Whalers in 1978-79. He merged with the franchise into the NHL and spent a couple of seasons with the Hartford Whalers before joining the Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings. In between time in the WHA and NHL, Jeff spent some time in the CHL with the Colorado Flames, the IHL with the Colorado Rangers and the AHL where he suited up for Rochester, Springfield, Binghamton, Nova Scotia, Hershey and Adirondack. This enforcer left his mark, accumulating 539 PIMS in 180 NHL games played over the course of 8 seasons. During his minor league career he amassed 1554 PIMS in 511 games played!

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the manufacturers, wash, size and year tagging. Sewn to the shoulders are the beloved Pucky Whales. The intricately stitched harpoon dissects the tackle twill crest. Brubaker is sewn directly to the upper verso with individually sewn lettering just as it should be. The collar of this gamer has been custom vented for Brubaker by the team. The game wear on this size 50 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, fight abuse with washed out bloodstains, stitch pops, an unraveled left sleeve cuff, a double garter style fight strap that is pulling away from the base and shows heavy stretching, staining, trauma and fine inner pilling. On the back player number is a beautiful black sharpie signature in Brubaker’s own hand. This vintage WHA jersey is making its return to the hobby after being out of circulation for nearly two decades. A wonderful enforcer’s gamer hailing from the WHA’s final season that was worn by Brubaker during his rookie season, choice!
