This home white mesh gamer by Stall & Dean was worn by Jacques Cossette during the 1978-79 NHL season. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Cossette in the 2nd round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. Cossette, who starred for the AHL’s Hershey Bears and Broome Dusters, made his NHL debut in 1975-76 with the Penguins. Jacques’ NHL career spanned 1975-76 thru 1978-79, spending all of them with the team that drafted him, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the manufacturers, wash, size and year tagging. The game wear on this size 52 sweater is solid and consists of stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, washed out bloodstains, fine inner pilling and team-sewn repair work to the body, sleeves and plenty more to the old-school sewn-on skating Penguins crest. A double garter style fight strap remains sewn to the inside back player numbers while evidence of Cossette’s number change from 20 to 27 to accommodate Pete Mahovlich is also worthy of mention. A beautiful vintage “Blue Penguins Era” example that bridged the gap from the original Penguins dureen years to the black and gold period that began in the following season.
