Description
1978-79 Dave “Tiger” Williams Toronto Maple Leafs Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match - Video Match – Tiger Williams Letter
Lot #12
This amazing offering is packed with provenance. This rare sweater originated from the personal collection of Dave “Tiger” Williams and was gifted by Tiger to a sports museum in 1991 where it sat for nearly 25 years since just recently entering our hobby. A letter from Dave “Tiger” Williams will accompany your purchase.

This road blue knit gamer by Maska was worn by Dave “Tiger” Williams during the 1978-79 NHL season. The Toronto Maple Leafs selected Williams in the 2nd round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. This legendary enforcer made his NHL debut in 1974-75 with the Leafs and spent part of the first 6 years of his career with the club. It was in Toronto that Tiger built his legend, scoring at an unexpected clip while becoming the leagues foremost bad boy. As part of the Leafs dump of much of their 1970’s era talent, a deal in 1980 sent Williams packing to Vancouver.

Tiger next spent parts of 5 seasons with the Canucks where he earned All Star status and went to the Stanley Cup Finals. He then spent a partial season in Detroit before joining Los Angeles in 1985. Williams played for the Kings for parts of 4 seasons before a final partial season with the Whalers. When all was said and done, Tiger had played in 962 regular season games, scoring 241 goals and 513 points to go along with a seemingly unbeatable NHL record of 3966 PIMS! Tiger also amassed 455 PIMS in 83 playoff contests! Not only was he the ultimate goon, but Tiger could also light the lamp as evidenced by his 35-goal season with Vancouver in 1980-81, which earned him a spot in the NHL All Star Game.

The sleeves on this gamer have been custom shortened by the Maple Leafs for Tiger. The game wear on this size 50 sweater is simply tremendous! There are stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, loads of washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and nearly a dozen and a half team-sewn repairs! Shown above are some beautiful photo matches of Tiger wearing this exact jersey during the 1978-79 season. Also shown above are some amazing video matches of Tiger wearing this exact jersey during the 1978-79 playoffs that show his involvement in a legendary old-school brawl! On the back player number is a beautiful black sharpie signature in Tiger’s own hand. To our knowledge, this is one of only two known examples of a Dave “Tiger” Williams Toronto Maple Leafs game worn jersey to exist in our hobby! This hammered offering is loaded with fight abuse and game wear and will be accompanied by terrific photo and video matches along with a signed letter from Tiger himself! A fresh offering and a true hobby rarity that should be coveted by many and undoubtedly treasured by its new owner, Good Luck!
