1978-79 Bob Bourne New York Islanders Game Worn Jersey
Lot #37

This road blue mesh gamer by Goodman & Sons and Bill Vanderburg was worn by Bob Bourne during the 1978-79 NHL season. The KC Scouts selected Bourne in the 3rd round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. A trade sent Bourne to the Islanders where he began his NHL career as a rookie in 1974-75. It was an important season in franchise history as the Islanders surged to game 7 of the Semi Finals where they lost on Spectrum ice to the defending Stanley Cup Champion Flyers.

Bourne became an integral part of the team’s nucleus that would go onto dynasty status in the years to come. Bourne remained an Islander for a dozen seasons and won four Stanley Cups before joining the Kings for two more years prior to announcing his retirement. Bobby was a three time 30-goal scorer for New York, although his biggest contributions were felt in the playoffs during the dynasty years. During the four consecutive Stanley Cup winning seasons in the 1980’s, Bourne averaged a point per game, scoring 74 points in 74 playoff games including many clutch goals. Recognized as one of the taller players in the league, Bourne possessed lightning fast speed and he used it to perfection as one of the NHL’s best penalty killers, a constant breakaway threat and a tremendous defensive forward. Bobby represented Team Canada in the 1984 Canada Cup and was also an NHL All Star.

The game wear on this size 50 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, pulls, heavy pilling both inside and out and several team-sewn repairs. A custom fight strap is affixed on the inside to the back player number. The Goodman & Sons era lasted merely a few seasons on the Island spanning the late 1970’s and culminating with the Islanders first Stanley Cup Championship in 1979-80. These NY Islanders sweaters have traditionally been a tough get in the hobby. For the first time in franchise history, the Islanders won the President’s Trophy in 1978-79 as the NHL’s best regular season team, edging past the Montreal Canadiens dynasty. Bourne netted an impressive 30-goals and went +34 during the 1978-79 season while wearing this jersey. A terrific opportunity to acquire a tough style worn by this NHL All Star and four-time Stanley Cup champion, choice!
