1977 Ron Reed Philadephia Phillies Game Worn Jersey
Lot #731
This powder blue jersey by Wilson was worn by pitcher Ron Reed while playing for the Philadelphia Phillies during the 1977 MLB season. Reed, who stands 6’6” tall, was a three-year varsity letterman on the Notre Dame basketball team. He still stands among the top 50 scoring leaders in Notre Dame history. He was drafted by the Detroit Pistons but decided to play baseball instead.

He was signed by the Milwaukee Braves as a free agent in 1965 and began his career after the move to Atlanta for the 1966 season. Reed would spend most of 10 seasons with the Braves, 1 in St. Louis, 8 in Philadelphia and part of a season in Chicago to round out a 19-year MLB career. Reed started out as a starting pitcher in Atlanta, winning 18 games in 1969 as he helped lead his team to the post-season against the eventual World Champion Mets. Reed was actually the winning pitcher for the Braves the night Hank Aaron hit his 715th Home Run. He eventually turned to the bullpen after the 1975 season and pitched almost exclusively as a reliever in Philadelphia, pitching in 458 games in relief in Philly. Reed is one of only 5 pitchers in MLB history to have 100 Wins, 100 Saves and 50 Complete Games. He was an All Star in 1968 and helped the Phillies win the World Series in 1980.

This powder blue jersey has the manufactures tag and year tag “46 77 1” on the front hem. The player name “Reed” is chain stitched in the collar. The 1977 season saw Reed pitch 60 games for the Phillies, finishing with a 7-5 record with 15 Saves and an ERA of 2.75.
