This home white mesh gamer by Stall & Dean was worn by Dwight Foster during the 1977-78 and 1978-79 NHL seasons, his rookie and sophomore years. The Boston Bruins selected Foster in the 1st round of the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft. This Ontario native made his NHL debut with the Bruins in 1977-78 and spent 4 seasons playing in Boston before joining the Colorado Rockies in 1981-82. Dwight transferred with the Rockies franchise to New Jersey and after only 4 games with the Devils, joined the Detroit Red Wings where he spent 4 seasons. Foster finished up his playing career back where it began, spending two more years calling the Boston Garden home.
Sewn into the collar of this gamer are the Stall & Dean, wash, size and year tags. The game wear on this size 50 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer from the boards at the old Boston Garden, un-repaired burn holes, trauma, seam reinforcement, inner pilling and approximately 50 team-sewn repairs! The original double garter style fight strap remains sewn to the inside back player numbers while the nameplate, which was stripped for preseason use has been lost to history. A hammered example worn by Foster during his first couple of NHL seasons as the Don Cherry era in Boston was in full swing.
