1977-78 Wally Harris Referee Worn Jersey
Lot #128

This black and white striped gamer by Gerry Cosby was worn by NHL referee Wally Harris circa the 1977-78 NHL season. Harris joined the NHL in 1966 and worked NHL games for the next 17 seasons. In 1987 he became the NHL Supervisor of Officials until retiring from the position in 2002.

Sewn into the collar of this vintage gamer is the Gerry Cosby tag. Sewn to the left breast is the NHL logo. Both sleeves feature vibrant orange colored referee bands and the jersey shows nice game use including some team-sewn repair work. The name W. Harris is sewn to the verso in white twill lettering on a black nameplate and presumably marks the brief time when he and Ron Harris were both employed as NHL officials during the outset of the name on back era. Ron Harris passed away in 1978 helping us date this sweater. Wally Harris is one of the most recognizable referee’s of our lifetimes and he is remembered fondly for letting the boys go at it! A wonderful vintage gamer that hails from the beginning of the NHL’s mandated name on back era.
