1977-78 Johnny Bucyk Boston Bruins Game Worn Jersey - 23rd & Final NHL Season
Lot #10

This home white mesh gamer by Stall & Dean was worn by Johnny Bucyk during the 1977-78 NHL season. “Chief” began his Hall of Fame NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings in 1955-56. After 2 seasons with Detroit, Bucyk joined the Boston Bruins when he was traded for legendary goalie Terry Sawchuk. John played for the next 21 seasons for the Boston Bruins! Bucyk retired following the 1977-78 season as the 4th leading scorer in NHL history. In 1540 games played, Chief lit the lamp 556 times and added 813 assists for 1369 points. His career best season came in 1970-71, as he netted 51 goals and 65 assists for 116 points while only serving 8 minutes in the sin bin. For his efforts in 1970-71 Bucyk earned his first of two Lady Byng Memorial Trophy’s and well as a 1st Team NHL All Star selection at LW. Johnny had previously captured a 2nd Team selection in 1967-68 at a position dominated throughout his career by the likes of Bobby Hull and Frank Mahovlich. After finding himself in the Stanley Cup Finals in two of his first three seasons and skating away without a title either time, Bucyk finally hoisted Lord Stanley’s Cup in 1970 as Captain of the Big Bad Bruins. Bucyk and his talented teammates won another Cup just two seasons later, placing themselves among the sports all-time great teams to date. Bucyk is the franchise’s all-time goal scoring leader and he ranks 2nd to only Ray Bourque in assists and points. The Bruins retired Bucyk’s #9 following his retirement in 1978. Chief was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in the class of 1981 in his first year of eligibility.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. Sewn into the collar are the Stall & Dean, wash, year and size tags. The game wear on this size 54 sweater consists of stick marks and inner pilling. The original nameplate is sewn to the upper verso and a treat most worthy of mention. Bucyk wore this amazing jersey during his 23rd and final NHL season. Bucyk gamers are considered to be among the toughest of all the 500 Goal Scorer’s game worn jerseys to obtain. This stunning Captain’s jersey would be an instant cornerstone in any serious Hall of Fame collection, choice!
