This home white mesh jersey by Stall and Dean was game issued for John Hughes during the 1977-78 WHA season. The Vancouver Canucks and Houston Aeros each selected Hughes in the 1974 NHL and WHA Amateur Drafts. After playing his junior hockey with the Toronto Marlboros, this tough guy made his WHA debut with the Phoenix Roadrunners in 1974-75. He next suited up for the Cincinnati Stingers for a couple of seasons before wrapping up his WHA career with the Houston Aeros, Edmonton Oilers and Indianapolis Racers. After the WHA-NHL merger, Hughes joined the Vancouver Canucks who still owned his rights. John then reunited with Wayne Gretzky and the Oilers in 1980-81 and finished his NHL career with the New York Rangers. Over the course of 372 WHA games played, Hughes scored 148 points from his position of defense while also better than 200 PIMS per season on a couple of occasions and finishing his WHA career with 778 PIMS. Hughes also played in several WHA All Star Games.
Sewn to the collar of this jersey are the manufacturers, wash, size and year tagging. All of the lettering and numbering are sewn on. Being game issued, there is no game wear on this size 50 sweater. A terrific relic from the Houston Aeros final WHA season.
