Description
1977-78 Jean-Claude Tremblay WHA Quebec Nordiques Game Worn Jersey
Lot #83

The Quebec Nordiques were one of the original 12 WHA teams to begin play in 1972-73. They would prove to be one of the most financially successful WHA franchise’s, surviving the 7-year existence of the league and eventually merging into the NHL for 1979-80. Afterall, the fans in Quebec had waited over a half century for pro hockey to return to their town. The Nordiques would make the final round of the Avco World Finals two times and they emerged victorious in 1976-77.

This road blue mesh gamer was worn by All Star defenseman Jean-Claude Tremblay during the 1977-78 WHA seasons. Tremblay began his lengthy 20-year professional career during the 1959-60 NHL season as the Montreal Canadiens were winning their record 5th straight Stanley Cup. He would spend 13 years in the NHL representing the Canadiens and winning an impressive 6 Stanley Cup titles during that span. When the 1972-73 season began, JC found himself in the WHA, representing the Quebec Nordiques. He remained in the WHA thru its entire 7-year existence, all with the Quebec franchise. During his NHL career, Tremblay played in 7 NHL All Star games and was twice named a 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star. His WHA resume is no less impressive. Considered among the finest defenseman in the fledgling leagues history, JC was twice awarded the Dennis Murphy Trophy as the WHA’s outstanding defenseman. He was 4 times a 1st or 2nd Team WHA All Star and partook in 6 WHA All Star games! JC also represented Team Canada’s WHA All Stars during their 8-game Summit Series against the Russians in 1974.

The game wear on this vintage WHA sweater consists of stick marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes and heavy pilling running from the belly to the rear of the left hip, the wrist areas and of course the inside. A sweet example from a bygone era.
