1977-78 Gennady Tsygankov UCKA Central Red Army
Lot #37

This rare Cold War Era gamer was acquired via the Tsygankov Family, straight out of the former Soviet Union.

This white mesh gamer was worn by Gennady Tsygankov while skating for the Central Red Army during the 1977-78 season. Tsygankov enjoyed a career that spanned from the 1960’s to 1980. Gennady, being one of the Soviet Union’s top defenseman, partook in all 8 games of the 1972 Summit Series. During his stellar career, Tsygankov won 6 World Championships, 5 European Championships, partook in and won the 1979 Challenge Cup and won Olympic Gold Medals in 1972 and 1976. This talented Soviet rearguard passed away prior to his 59th birthday in 2006.

Sewn into the inner seam of this gamer is the original Russian manufacturers tagging. The game wear on this sweater is tremendous and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains and some fantastic team-sewn repair work found throughout the body and sleeves of this vintage Red Army sweater. Shown above is an image of Tsygankov wearing this rare style during the photo shoot for the Central Red Army team during the 1977-78 season. This very tough style features wonderful provenance and tremendous game use and was worn by this esteemed Soviet defenseman while representing the Central Red Army in 1977-78, choice!
