1977-78 Clark Gillies NHL All Star Game Worn Jersey Only NHL All Star Game 1st Team NHL All Star Clark Gillies Letter
Lot #23
This jersey originates from the personal collection of NHL Hall of Famer Clark Gillies. A letter signed by Mr. Gillies will accompany your purchase.

This striking orange knit gamer by Cosby was worn by Clark Gillies during the 1978 NHL All Star Game in Buffalo, NY, the only All Star Game appearance of Gillies’ career. The New York Islanders selected Gillies with the 4th overall pick in the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. “Jethro” joined the Islanders for the start of the 1974-75 season and not coincidentally helped lead the team to their first ever playoff appearance later that spring. It was a thrashing of Philadelphia’s goon, Dave Schultz, during the 1975 Semi Finals that served notice to the league that Clark was a force to be reckoned with. The Isles lost a hard-fought series in 7 games to the Flyers after trailing three games to none for the 2nd series in a row, thus finishing a game shy of the Stanley Cup Finals in only their 3rd season as a franchise.

Gillies soon after became the NHL’s premier power forward, a title he held throughout the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. In addition to his devastating fighting prowess, Clark was 6-times a 30-Goal scorer and he was part of one of the best lines in NHL history playing Left Wing alongside fellow Hall of Famers Bryan Trottier and Mike Bossy. Gillies was named 1st Team NHL All Star in 1978 and 1979 and he played in the NHL All Star Game in 1978 as well as in the 1979 Challenge Cup, a 3-game series against the Soviet Union. Gillies also represented Team Canada on the international stage during the 1981 Canada Cup. Clark served several years as the Islanders Team Captain in the late 1970’s after taking over from Ed Westfall and thus became the 2nd Captain in franchise history. Gillies played in five consecutive Stanley Cup Finals from 1980-84 and won 4 straight Stanley Cups as the New York Islanders gained Dynasty status. Clark had his player number 9 raised to the rafters and retired by the Islanders and was also deservingly inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002.

The 1978 NHL All Star Game in Buffalo is considered by many to be perhaps the greatest NHL All Star Game of all-time. The Wales Conference erased an early 2-0 Campbell Conference lead, as Buffalo winger Rick Martin scored the game-tying goal with less than two minutes remaining in the 3rd period to send it to overtime. Nearly four minutes into the sudden death period, hometown hero Gilbert Perreault delighted the crowd with the game-winner to give the Wales Conference a 3-2 victory.

This stunning orange knit marks the only NHL All Star Game jersey that Gillies ever wore during his Hall of Fame career. Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Cosby and size tagging. The game wear on this size 50 sweater is light as would be expected. Gillies is shown above surrounded by his Islanders Hall of Fame teammates while wearing this jersey. A tremendous example from a year that saw Gillies earn 1st Team NHL All Star honors on the strength of a 35-Goal and 85-Point performance that earned him the right to play in his only NHL All Star Game. Originating from Gillies’ own personal collection, this beauty will be accompanied by a letter signed by the Hall of Famer himself, choice!
