It is with great pleasure that we bring to the hobby this jersey from the personal collection of Montreal Canadien’s Hall of Famer Steve Shutt. His awesome collection of game worn jerseys and equipment was impeccably preserved by Steve since the day they last saw the ice. A letter from Steve Shutt will accompany your purchase.
This red knit gamer by Athletic Knit was worn by Steve Shutt while representing Team Canada during the 1976 Canada Cup. Shutt patrolled the Left Wing on one of the greatest lines in NHL history alongside fellow Hall of Famers Guy Lafleur and Jacques Lemaire. He was an integral part of the Canadiens dynasty of the 1970’s, winning 5 Stanley Cups in all during that decade. The 1976-77 season saw Steve lead the NHL in goals with 60. With this total he became only the 2nd player in the history of the league to ever score 60-goals in a season. Shutt was 3 times a 1st or 2nd team NHL All Star and he represented the Canadiens in 4 NHL All Star games. His 424 career goals were one of the better totals accumulated during his era as were his 50 playoff goals and nearly 100 playoff points. Steve had a knack for scoring the big goal and will forever be remembered as one of the finest Left Wingers of his generation. His 1993 Hall of Fame induction was well deserved and never in doubt.
This beautiful red Team Canada sweater shows nice game wear which includes stick marks, board burns and inner pilling. The 1976 Canada Cup was a critical international series that showcased perhaps the greatest talent pool to ever play together before or since. Team Canada, as they had in ‘72, once again showed their superiority by defeating the arch rival Soviet Union in the Semi-Final round and knocking off the surprising Czech team which featured a young Peter Stastny in the Final round. Playing together for Team Canada ‘76 were the following all-time greats: Orr, Potvin, Robinson, Lapointe, Savard, Esposito, Hull, Lafleur, Perreault, McDonald, Dionne, Clarke, Barber, Shutt, Sittler, Cheevers and Vachon among others. It was like a who’s who of Hall of Fame legends, a place where Shutt comfortably fit right in. In 30 years since this momentous Canada Cup series, few examples of these gamers have surfaced. This is an incredible opportunity for one to turn back the clock and acquire a truly monumental keepsake from perhaps the greatest International team to ever take the ice.
