1976 Pete Lopresti Team USA Canada Cup Game Worn Jersey
Lot #13

This stunning white heavy knit gamer by Wilson and Gunzos was worn by Pete Lopresti during the inaugural Canada Cup tournament, in 1976. Lopresti tended goal for Team USA, playing many of their minutes during the 1976 Canada Cup games. He was also the man in goal for Team USA during the World Championships in both the 1975-76 and 1977-78 seasons. Pete was Minnesota born and played for his hometown Minnesota North Stars from 1974-75 thru 1978-79. His final NHL stop was with the Edmonton Oilers, where he suited up sparingly during the 1980-81 season before announcing his retirement.

Considered perhaps the finest looking Team USA jerseys ever, these heavy knits were used as Team USA began their pre tournament action. Complaints from the players of these sweaters being too heavy, especially when combined with the summer weather, eventually caused team officials to change to a set of lighter weight gamers made by Athletic Knit.

Sewn in the hem of this spectacular jersey is a chain stitched “76”. Sewn into the collar are the Wilson and Gunzos tags. The detailed chain stitched American Bald Eagle crest is a sight to behold, with the letters USA proudly sewn on top. The sewn on tackle twill letters, numbers and stars only add to the appeal of this gorgeous jersey. The game use is typical for that of a goalie with stick and puck marks and paint transfer. The lucky buyer will have acquired an immediate cornerstone gamer which will be the envy of many.
