1976-77 Craig Patrick WHA Minnesota Fighting Saints Equipment Bag, Gloves and Skates Autographed Miracle on Ice Alum
Lot #401

Offered here is a terrific group of equipment used by Miracle On Ice Alum and Hockey Hall of Famer Craig Patrick during the 1976-77 WHA season. Included are a pair of game worn skates, a pair of game worn gloves and Craig's equipment bag from his lone WHA season while representing the Minnesota Fighting Saints. This Detroit, MI native played his college hockey at the University of Denver and led his team to back-to-back National Championships in 1968 and 1969. Craig starred on the U.S. National Team in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s before beginning his professional career in 1971 in the AHL. Patrick made his NHL debut with the California Golden Seals in 1971-72 and spent parts of 4 seasons with the club before a trade sent him to St. Louis in November 1974. Patrick next spent the 1975-76 season with the KC Scouts and then dipped his toe in the WHA, playing part of the 1976-77 season with the Minnesota Fighting Saints before returning to the NHL where he finished up his career after 3 seasons with the Washington Capitals in 1978-79.

With his playing days behind him, following the 1978-79 season, Herb Brooks offered Craig Patrick a job as assistant coach and GM of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team. Patrick accepted and took the amazing ride alongside Brooks and the team that celebrated the 1980 Miracle on Ice and the Olympic Gold Medal. Brooks and Patrick again teamed up to win the Silver Medal in the 2002 Olympics. Of course Patrick went on to a legendary career as an NHL executive, guiding the Pittsburgh Penguins to back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in the early 1990’s. He was the architect that built the Penguins into the powerhouse they were, drafting Jaromir Jagr and executing trades for Ron Francis, Ulf Samuelsson and Joe Mullen among others. Patrick also had a big hand in building the modern era Penguins by drafting Crosby, Malkin and Fleury.

The Patrick family is considered hockey royalty and dates back to Craig’s grandfather, Lester Patrick. Craig followed in the footsteps of the generations that preceded him and was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.

This exciting group of equipment originally came directly from Craig Patrick. Included is a black Minnesota Fighting Saints equipment bag that features the Fighting Saints name and logo on both sides with Patrick's player number “9” on the top. Also included is a pair of Patrick's red and white Cooper game worn gloves with the player number “9” on the cuff as well as a pair of black game worn Lange skates. Craig has penned beautiful autographs on both gloves in black sharpie and on both skates in silver sharpie. A wonderful offering that originated directly from Hall of Famer Craig Patrick.
