Description
1976-77 Bill Butters WHA Minnesota Fighting Saints Game Worn Jersey
Lot #17
This striking red dureen gamer by Rawlings and Steichens was worn by Bill Butters during the 1976-77 WHA season. Butters, a St. Paul native, attended the University of Minnesota before beginning his professional career in 1974-75 with the hometown Fighting Saints. Butters spent 3 seasons playing with Minnesota before the team folded in January of 1977. Bill next suited up for the Oilers and Whalers before joining the hometown Minnesota North Stars in 1977-78. Butters spent 2 seasons in the NHL with Minnesota, his final stop. Since leaving the ice, Butters returned to his alma mater, the University of Minnesota where he was a longtime coach. More recently, Butters can be found behind the University of Wisconsin bench.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. Sewn into the collar are the Rawlings and Steichens tags. The game wear on this size 48 sweater consists of stick and slash marks that are found scattered about the front, back and both sleeves along with inner pilling. The original loop style fight strap remains sewn just beneath the rear player number while the all-original nameplate is another treat certainly worthy of mention. A Red Fighting Saints gamer is considered a true prize in the hobby as they existed for merely a half season and marked the end of the WHA era in Minnesota. This impeccably preserved example offers nice game use, still vibrant colors, an all-original nameplate, tremendous eye appeal and the all-important and highly coveted letter of honor. An immediate cornerstone addition to any serious WHA collection of gamers, and certainly one of the finest Red Fighting Saints examples in the hobby, choice!
