This road blue dureen gamer by Rawlings was worn by Jacques Cossette and Yves Bergeron during the 1975-76 and 1976-77 NHL seasons. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Cossette in the 2nd round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. Cossette, who starred for the AHL’s Hershey Bears and Broome Dusters, made his NHL debut in 1975-76 with the Penguins. Jacques’ NHL career spanned 1975-76 thru 1978-79, spending all of them with the team that drafted him, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Bergeron in the 8th round of the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft. After playing his first professional season as an inaugural member of the Quebec Nordiques of the WHA in 1972-73, Bergeron made his NHL debut in 1974-75 with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he played or a couple of seasons. Bergeron, like Cossette, also starred for the Hershey Bears during the mid 1970’s.
Sewn into the collar of this vintage dureen is the Rawlings manufacturers tag. The game wear on this size 48 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, runs and trauma, stitch pops, inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Cossette wearing this exact jersey during the 1976 season. When it comes to styles that are perpetually in serious demand in the hobby, a blue Penguins jersey is always at or near the top of that list. This is just the second such example we’ve ever brought to auction, the first appearing 14 years ago back in the spring of 2007. A beautiful well-worn photo matched offering that is nearly a half-century removed from the ice and which stands ready to take a prominent place in your collection, choice!
