Description
1975-76 Ray McKay WHA Cleveland Crusaders Game Worn Jersey
Lot #56

This road purple mesh gamer by Rawlings was worn by Ray McKay during the 1975-76 WHA season. McKay began his NHL career with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1968-69 and played in the Windy City for three seasons before joining the Buffalo Sabres in 1971-72. Ray spent parts of two years with Buffalo before joining the California Golden Seals where he wrapped up his NHL career in 1973-74. McKay joined the WHA in 1974-75 and spent the next four years clearing creases in the World Hockey Association. During that time, McKay played for the Edmonton Oilers, Cleveland Crusaders, Birmingham Bulls and Minnesota Fighting Saints.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Rawlings manufacturers tag. The game wear on this size 48 sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains and inner pilling. The base of the fighting strap is uniquely sewn to the lower rear purple hem stripe. It was during the Crusaders final season that they switched to a mesh jersey for their road games. This was the only set of mesh sweaters that the team wore during their four-year existence. This one-year style featured a beautiful chain stitched tackle twill crest along with sewn-on numbering and lettering that was directly applied to the upper verso. This veteran of both the NHL and WHA wore this example during the Cleveland Crusaders last year in existence, choice!
