1975-76 Mike Antonovich WHA Minnesota Fighting Saints Game Worn Jersey
Lot #10

This road blue dureen gamer by Rawlings and Steichens was worn by Mike Antonovich during the 1975-76 WHA season. The Minnesota North Stars selected Antonovich in the 9th round of the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft. This Calumet, MN native played his college hockey at the University of Minnesota before making his professional debut with the Minnesota Fighting Saints during the WHA’s inaugural 1972-73 season. The Fighting Saints existed for a total of 5 seasons and Mike played with them in all 5. In the midst of his tenure with Minnesota’s WHA squad, Mike took a detour to the NHL for a 12-game stint in 1975-76 with the Minnesota North Stars. The 1976-77 season saw Antonovich play half a season for Minnesota and then move on to play briefly for the Edmonton Oilers before joining the New England Whalers where he remained for 3 seasons. Mike closed out his WHA career in New England and then merged with the squad into the NHL in 1979-80. He would go on to play for the North Stars yet again and then spent a couple of years with the expansion New Jersey Devils before putting the wraps on his NHL career. Antonovich ranks 5th all-time for games played with 486 in WHA history while his 182 career goals leave him ranked as 12th on the all-time WHA scoring list. In a poll taken that rated the top 50 WHA players of all-time, Antonovich ranked 46th on that prestigious list.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer are the Rawlings and Steichens tagging. The game wear on this size 44 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, runs, fine inner pilling and a handful of team-sewn repairs. The original loop style fight strap is affixed to the lower verso while the original nameplate is a treat most worthy of mention. This beautiful well-worn example remains in all-original condition and was worn by this former WHA All Star, choice!
