Description
1975-76 Lyle Moffat WHA Cleveland Crusaders Game Worn Jersey
Lot #28

This road purple mesh gamer by Rawlings was worn by Lyle Moffat during the 1975-76 WHA season, the Crusaders last WHA season. After spending 2 seasons at Michigan Tech University, Moffat began his NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1972-73. After a couple of seasons with the Leafs, Moffat made his WHA debut in 1975-76 with the Cleveland Crusaders. After 33 games with the Crusaders, Moffat was traded to the Winnipeg Jets where he would play for the remainder of his WHA career. During his 3 and a half seasons with the Jets, Moffat went to the Avco Cup Finals 4 times and walked away with 3 Avco Cup Championships! When the league collapsed the Jets merged into the NHL and Moffat went with, spending one final season with the Jets in the NHL.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Rawlings manufacturers tag. The game wear on this size 46 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, heavy board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and a couple of sizable team-sewn repairs. It was during the Crusaders final season that they switched to a mesh jersey for their road games. This was the only set of mesh sweaters that the team wore during their 4-year existence. This 1-year style featured a beautiful chain stitched tackle twill crest along with sewn on numbering and lettering that was directly applied to the upper verso. This 3-time Avco Cup Champion put nice use on this example during his first season in the WHA, which also happened to be the Cleveland Crusaders last, choice!
