1974-75 Ed Giacomin New York Rangers Game Worn Jersey
Lot #3
This home white dureen gamer by Cosby was worn by Eddie Giacomin during the 1974-75 NHL season, his last full season with the New York Rangers. Giacomin began his NHL career in 1965-66 with the Rangers and spent parts of 11 seasons wearing New York’s red, white and blue colors before being acquired by the Detroit Red Wings early in the 1975-76 season and spending the final 3 years of his career in the Motor City. Giacomin was among the finest goalies of his generation, and as such he earned the 1970-71 Vezina Trophy in addition to being a 5-time 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star. Eddie played in 6 NHL All Star games and had his number 1 retired to the rafters at Madison Square Garden in 1989, never to be worn again. In his first game back at MSG, the Rangers faithful roared Ed-die! Ed-die! And even booed their own team on a night that goes down as one of the 50 greatest moments in MSG history. Eddie assumed a huge workload prior to the arrival of teammate Gilles Villemure and led the league in games played 4 consecutive times. He led the league in shutouts 3 different times and registered 54 of them in his 289 Win career. Eddie led the NHL in Wins 3 different times. Giacomin was rightfully inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987 and remains to this day perhaps the most beloved Ranger of all-time.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Cosby and size 48 tagging. Affixed to the inside is the old school garter style fight strap with an additional attached hooking mechanism. The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and puck marks, abrasions, pulls, pilling from Eddie’s goalie gloves at the cuffs, sweat stains and inner pilling. The Rangers pioneered the concept of wearing player names on their jerseys and did so during home games beginning in the early 1970’s, making this all-original NOB offering a treat certainly worthy of mention. This treasure was worn in front of the Madison Square Garden faithful, during Eddie’s last full season with the Rangers. To say that a Giacomin gamer is one of the most coveted Hall of Famer’s of the era would be entirely accurate. To a Rangers collector there may be no better prize that exists, choice!
