Description
1974-75 Brian McDonald WHA Michigan Stags Game Worn Jersey
Lot #29

This road red dureen gamer by Wilson was likely worn by Brian McDonald during the 1974-75 WHA season. This Toronto native spent many a year in the minors and made his NHL debut in 1967-68 with the Chicago Blackhawks. Brian was also a member of the 1970-71 inaugural Buffalo Sabres. In 1972-73 the WHA came calling and Brian thus began a five-year stint in The Rebel League. McDonald spent his first few years with the Houston Aeros, LA Sharks and Michigan Stags before playing his final three seasons with the Indianapolis Racers. McDonald scored 90 goals and 190 points while accumulating 272 PIMS in 304 WHA games played.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Wilson manufacturers tag. The game wear on this size 48 sweater consists of stick marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes and trauma and inner pilling. The Michigan Stags existed as a franchise for just several months before becoming wards of the league and relocating to Baltimore in January of 1975. As such, they are one of the WHA’s shortest lived teams, having played just 43 games. McDonald played in just 18 games during the 1974-75 season and we know for certain that he wore the player number 17 at some point during his tenure in Michigan, yet unsurprisingly, we have not found a picture of him wearing the player number 28. Featuring still vibrant colors and tremendous eye appeal this gamer would be a welcomed addition to any WHA collection.
