Description
1973-74 Gerry Desjardins New York Islanders Game Worn Jersey - 2nd Year Islanders - Glenn “Chico” Resch Letter
Lot #10
This rare game worn jersey was originally part of the Glenn “Chico” Resch collection. Chico obtained this jersey while he was a member of the Islanders back in the 1970’s. A letter of provenance signed by Mr. Resch will accompany your purchase.

This road blue dureen gamer by Rawlings was worn by Gerry Desjardins during the 1973-74 NHL season, the 2nd season in Islanders franchise history. Desjardins began his NHL career in 1968-69 with the LA Kings. During his 2nd year in LA, Gerry was dealt to the Chicago Black Hawks where he spent the next 3 seasons. Desjardins next became an original member of the New York Islanders with whom he tended goal for 2 seasons before joining the WHA’s Michigan Stags. Desjardins appeared in 41 contests for the Michigan Stags franchise before returning to the NHL later that same year. The Islanders had traded his rights to the Buffalo Sabres and Gerry returned with a bang, leading the Sabres to their first ever Stanley Cup Finals appearance later that same year. It was with Buffalo that Gerry spent the next several years, earning an NHL All Star appearance before retiring in 1977-78.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Rawlings manufacturers tag. The game wear on this size 50 sweater consists of stick and puck marks, material pulls, stitch pops and inner pilling. The original stunted loop style fight strap remains perfectly sewn beneath the back player numbers. The all-original crest and numbers are certainly a treat worthy of mention as hobbyists are aware that the Islanders sent the majority of their sweaters down to the minors for reuse in the early years. Any Islanders gamer dating to those first few seasons in all-original form is a true hobby rarity. Desjardins shared the goaltending duties during the Islanders first two seasons with Hall of Famer Billy Smith. Glenn “Chico” Resch first appeared on the scene with the Islanders for a 2-game call-up in 1973-74 and it spelled the eventual end of the road for Desjardins in an Islanders uniform as coach Al Arbour and GM Bill Torrey fell in love with Chico. A handwritten and signed letter of provenance by Chico himself will accompany your purchase stating that he obtained this game worn Desjardins jersey back in the 1970’s during his time with the Islanders, oh the irony! A truly rare all-original vintage Islanders gamer that hails from the franchise’s 2nd year in existence and comes with incredible provenance from Glenn “Chico” Resch, choice!
