Description
1973-74 Chicago Blackhawks Game Worn Jersey + Training Camp Worn Jersey – Player #63 - The Gunzo’s Collection
Lot #83

This road red dureen gamer by Wilson and Gunzo’s was first worn by an undetermined Chicago Blackhawks player during the 1973-74 NHL season. This jersey came from the Gunzo’s Collection that we first introduced to the hobby back in 2011. There were 11 of these vintage red dureen game worn jerseys in the collection. Each was originally worn as a full time regular season and/or playoff road jersey in the 1970’s and then was later recycled by the Black Hawks for use during training camp in the years that followed. At some point after the season ended, the original player number was stripped and new higher numbers were added for use during training camp. This helps solve the mystery of where so many of the Hawks vintage dureens disappeared to.

With access to a few random early 1980’s Chicago Black Hawks training camp rosters we were able to confirm that the player number 63 was worn by Lee MacKenzie in 1982-83.

This striking red dureen was originally worn during the 1973-74 NHL season by an undetermined Blackhawks player. Sewn to the inside hem is a chain stitched 73 year tag. Sewn into the crossover collar are the Wilson and Gunzo’s tags. The most beautiful logo in all of sports, Chief Indian Head, is hand stitched in all its vintage glory on the chest of this jersey. The game wear on this sweater is solid and features stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired holes, heavy inner pilling and some terrific team-sewn repair work. An exciting discovery of the Gunzo’s Collection brought this previously unknown gamer to the hobby nearly a decade ago. This is the first returnee from the collection that we’ve had the pleasure of offering!
