This road blue knit gamer by Harval Sportswear was worn by Bobby Hull during the 1973-74 WHA season, the WHA’s second year of existence. Bobby Hull was the greatest Left Wing to ever lace up a pair of skates. His NHL career began in 1957-58 with the Chicago Blackhawks. Hull represented the city of Chicago proudly for 15 years and led his team to the 1961 Stanley Cup, which broke a 23-year drought. Bobby’s individual accolades were numerous, helped in part by his deadly wrist shot and a slapshot that was clocked at nearly 120 MPH! He became the first player to score more than 50 goals in a season, doing so in 1965-66 and surpassing Rocket Richard and Boom Boom Geoffrian’s 50 Goal totals in the process. Hull led the NHL in goals 7 times and was the NHL’s leading scorer and Art Ross Trophy winner three times. Bobby was twice awarded the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s MVP and also captured the Lady Byng and Lester Patrick Trophy. Hull was 10 times a 1st Team NHL All Star and twice a 2nd Team NHL All Star. He scored a mind blowing 610 goals and 1170 points in 1063 NHL games. Upon retirement, Hull was second on the NHL’s all-time Goal scoring list, trailing only Gordie Howe. The important Hockey News publication that in 1998 ranked the Top 50 NHL players of all-time, placed Bobby Hull as the 8th greatest player in NHL history.

In 1972-73 Bobby Hull stunned the hockey world when he left the NHL and received a record one million dollar signing bonus from the WHA’s Winnipeg Jets. This single move was one of the most influential in the history of hockey, as it literally gave credence to a league that seemed doomed to get off the ground. Other star players followed suit and the framework had been laid for the WHA’s 7-year existence. Hull played in all seven WHA seasons, from the age of 33-40! Despite his advanced age, he dominated the league and is unanimously considered the greatest player in WHA history. In 411 WHA games played, Bobby scored 303 goals, and added 335 assists for a total of 638 points. Hull led his Winnipeg Jets to three Avco Cup Championships and was twice the WHA’s MVP. He was three-times a 1st Team WHA All Star and twice a 2nd Team WHA All Star while playing in every WHA All Star Game.

Sewn perfectly into the collar of this gamer is the Harval and size tagging. The game wear on this size L sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, material pulls, exterior pilling, inner pilling and a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. Sewn just beneath the back-player number on the inner verso is a heavily reinforced garter style fight strap. Shown above are a number of beautiful photo matches of Hull wearing this exact jersey during the 1973-74 WHA season. In fact, Bobby is wearing this exact jersey in the most iconic WHA photographs of him that exist to this day. The WHA’s greatest player shined while wearing this sweater during road games as he struck for 53 goals, yet another in a long string of 50-goal seasons. For his efforts, Hull earned a spot in the WHA All Star Game and was named 1st Team WHA All Star. This incomparable example was worn by the greatest player in WHA history, during the league’s second year of existence. This sweater features tremendous game use and is accompanied by a slew of iconic photo matches that set it just a notch above. A spectacular Hall of Fame quality offering that is nearly a half-century removed from the ice, choice!
