Description
1973-74 Bill Corkery Boston Braves Game Worn Jersey - 1 Year Style
Lot #190

This home white mesh gamer by Champion was worn by Bill Corkery during the 1973-74 AHL season. Corkery joined the Braves following his NCAA career at Harvard where he starred in Cambridge in the early 1970’s.

The Boston Braves existed as a franchise for 3 seasons, with 1973-74 being their last. Hockey was at its height in Boston as the Big Bad Bruins with Orr, Espo and the rest of the gang winning 2 Stanley Cups in a 3-year span in the early 1970’s. The Braves would make a jersey change to a Champion made mesh for their 3rd and final season. While we’ve documented our fair share of 1st and 2nd year Braves gamers, to date this is the first 3rd year example we’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing other than in vintage black and white photographs; without which we wouldn’t have known these Champion’s even existed!

This hobby rarity features custom shortened sleeves with elastic added to their cuffs. Solid game wear consists of stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, washed out bloodstains and inner pilling.  A unique oval patch measuring 8” x 5” is sewn inside of the back player number with slots to house a skate style fight strap. This terrific piece of Boston hockey history is sure to be on many Boston area and minor league collectors want lists. Perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire this rare jersey style.
