1973-74 Bill Clement Philadelphia Flyers Stanley Cup Trophy Bill Clement Letter
Lot #592

This spectacular Stanley Cup Trophy was presented to Bill Clement for winning the 1974 Stanley Cup as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. The Philadelphia Flyers selected Clement in the 2nd round of the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft. Clement made his NHL debut in 1971-72 with the Flyers and spent 4 seasons with the club. During that time, Bill and his teammates celebrated back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 1974 and 1975 as the Flyers became the first expansion team to win the Stanley Cup. Following the 2nd Cup victory, the Flyers dealt Clement to the Washington Capitals for the right to select Mel Bridgman with the 1st overall pick in the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. Clement went on to play for the Capitals where he served as their Team Captain before being dealt to the Atlanta Flames where he played for parts of 5 years. When Atlanta relocated to Calgary, Clement went with and spent his final two years as a member of the Calgary Flames. All told, this Center won two Stanley Cups and played in two NHL All Star Games over the course of his 11 NHL seasons. Clement went on to a legendary broadcasting career and is still a member of the Flyers broadcasting team.

Standing 13” tall, this stunning Stanley Cup Trophy is engraved with “Philadelphia Flyers 1973-74”. Listed beneath are the players and executives that helped capture the first Stanley Cup in Philadelphia Flyers history, including but not limited to Ed Snider, Keith Allen, Fred Shero, Bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent, Bill Barber, Rick MacLeish, Bob Kelly, Terry Crisp, Orest Kindrachuk, Gary Dornhoefer, Ross Lonsberry, Simon Nolet, Bruce Cowick, Bob Taylor, Ed Van Impe, Jim Watson, Joe Watson, Barry Ashbee, Andre Dupont, Bill Flett, Tom Bladon, Don Saleski, Dave Schultz and of course Bill Clement.

“Win today and we walk together forever” were the words enshrined in Philly lore by Fred Shero prior to the Flyers upset victory in Game 6 of the 1974 Stanley Cup Finals against the Bobby Orr led Boston Bruins. Those chilling words will never be forgotten in the City of Brotherly Love, nor will the “Broad Street Bullies” who shocked the hockey world by winning the 1974 Stanley Cup. As collectors know, so few of the Philadelphia Flyers Stanley Cup player’s trophies have come to market. This beautiful example is the first Philadelphia Flyers specimen that we’ve ever had the pleasure to bring to Auction and will be accompanied by a letter signed by Bill Clement, choice!
