1972 Greg Polis NHL All Star Game Worn Jersey Career Best 30-Goal Season Photo Match
Lot #22
This blue dureen gamer by Cosby was worn by Greg Polis during the 1972 NHL All Star Game in his sophomore NHL season. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Polis with the 7th overall pick in the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft. This Alberta native made his NHL debut in 1970-71 with the Penguins where he skated for three full seasons and played in three NHL All Star Games. A trade sent Polis from Pittsburgh to St. Louis where he finished up the 73-74 season. That off-season, the Blues turned around and dealt Greg to the New York Rangers where he would play for parts of five seasons before completing his 10-year NHL career with the Washington Capitals.

Sewn into the hem of this gamer is the size 48 tag. The stitched outline of the Gerry Cosby and year tags sit alongside. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Polis wearing this exact jersey during the 1972 NHL All Star Game. The NHL was known to recycle their All-Star jerseys back in this era and this sweater shows nice game wear in addition to post game use. There is heavy pilling, a few runs and some loss to the uppermost red twill fabric on the back right side player number. The 1971-72 season saw Polis strike for a career best 30 Goals in what was just his second NHL season. The 1972 All Star Game was played at the Met in Bloomington, Minnesota with the East Division winning 3-2. The game marked the last year of this tough to find style as the league switched to the orange and white designed sweaters in 1973. This well-worn 50-year-old photo matched example would make a fine addition to any vintage NHL collection.
