1972-73 Yves Bergeron WHA Quebec Nordiques Game Worn Jersey - First Year WHA
Lot #23

The Quebec Nordiques were one of the original 12 WHA teams to begin play in 1972-73. They would prove to be one of the most financially successful WHA franchise’s, surviving the 7-year existence of the league and eventually merging into the NHL for 1979-80. Afterall, the fans in Quebec had waited over a half century for pro hockey to return to their town. The Nordiques would make the final round of the Avco World Finals two times and they emerged victorious in 1976-77.

This road blue dureen tie-down gamer by Maska was worn by Yves Bergeron during the inaugural
WHA season of 1972-73. Bergeron played for the Nordiques for this one season and spent a brief time in the NHL with the Penguins before calling it a career. Yves skated in 65 games for the Quebec franchise, which was for a time guided by the great Rocket Richard. He scored 14 goals and 33 points that inaugural season, while playing the Right Wing.

This 1st year WHA tie-down remains in superb condition and would serve as a great display piece. There are some stick marks and board burns evident, as well as some inner pilling and an un-repaired burn hole and a common dureen run in the right sleeve. Of note is the proper period crest, which was at one time removed by the team for recycling purposes and properly restored at a later date.
