Description
1972-73 Ron Low Toronto Maple Leafs Game Worn Jersey Rookie
Lot #29
This home white dureen gamer by Rawlings was worn by Ron Low during the 1972-73 NHL season. The Toronto Maple Leafs selected Low in the 8th round of the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft. Low spent his rookie year of 1972-73 wearing the Leafs colors. After Bernie Parent bolted for the WHA, Low served as his replacement in Toronto, sharing the goaltending duties with Jacques Plante and Gord McRae. Low saw the bulk of the playing time, appearing in 42 games during his rookie year with the Leafs. The following off-season saw Low get claimed by the Washington Capitals in the 1974 expansion draft and he thus became an inaugural member of the Capitals in 1974. After 3 seasons with Washington as their starting goalie, Ron spent a year with the Detroit Red Wings, parts of 4 with the burgeoning Edmonton Oilers and finally parts of 3 more with the New Jersey Devils. Following his playing days, this goalie spent much of the next two decades in coaching. Ron spent 11 of those seasons with the Edmonton Oilers.

The game wear on this size 50 sweater is solid and consists of stick and puck marks, smears of goal post paint transfer on both sleeves, board paint transfer, inner pilling, trauma and repair work to the front collar and a couple more team-sewn repairs to the body. Also worthy of mention is the signature of "Bernie Parent 1970-71" found on the inside crest. Shown above is a rare photo of Low as a rookie in 1972-73 on home ice during his only season with the Maple Leafs and almost assuredly wearing this jersey in what represents a perfect style match. Toronto Maple Leafs dureens from the 1970’s have always been in scarce supply in the hobby, making for a fantastic opportunity to snag this well worn gamer from Low’s rookie season between the pipes!
