1972-73 OPC autographed card of #61 Brian Spencer. Brian Spencer played 10 NHL seasons for the Maples Leafs, Islanders, Sabres and Penguins. Brian had some pretty good statistical seasons with the Islanders before he was traded to the Sabres during the 1973-74 season. His best years were in Buffalo where he was very popular at the Aud. Brian's last season in the NHL was 1978-79 with the Penguins.
After hockey, Brian ran into some rough times. He submersed himself into a life of drugs and violence. In 1987 he was charged with kidnapping and murder and faced the death penalty. Family and friends, including ex-teammates gathered around him and tried to help him. The jury deliberated and ruled with a not guilty verdict in 1988 and Spencer vowed to change his life. Following 11 NHL seasons, two marriages and five children, he moved to Florida. Three months later, June 2, 1988, he was robbed at gunpoint buying crack cocaine in Riviera Beach,FL, and was shot and killed, he was 38. The card is beautiful and the signature is a 10.
