1972-73 Jim Watson WHA Los Angeles Sharks Game Worn Jersey Inaugural Season
Lot #14

This home white dureen gamer by Goodman & Sons was worn by Jim Watson during the 1972-73 WHA season, the inaugural WHA season. Watson, a native of Quebec, made his NHL debut in 1963-64 with the Detroit Red Wings where he played for 6 seasons. Watson next suited up for the expansion Buffalo Sabres, spending two years with the club before joining the WHA. Watson was an inaugural member of the WHA, playing for the Los Angeles Sharks for parts of two years before joining the Chicago Cougars for parts of two more seasons. Jim wrapped up his WHA career with a year in Quebec. Watson wasn’t shy to mix things up when needed, compiling a number of triple digit PIMS seasons throughout his playing career.

Proudly sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. Sewn into the hem is the Goodman & Sons tag. The game wear on this size 50 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, fine inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. The original old school fight strap remains sewn to the inside of the back player number while the beautiful Shark crest is a sight to behold. Removed from the upper verso and lost to history is the player name Watson, the outline of individually stitched lettering remains legible. The LA Sharks existed for merely two years and their gamers have always been in high demand amongst collectors. A beautiful well-worn example, complete with the coveted letter of honor and hailing from the WHA’s inaugural season, choice!
