1972-73 Don Grierson WHA Houston Aeros Game Worn Jersey - Inaugural Season
Lot #40

This home white dureen gamer by General Athletic was worn by Don Grierson during the 1972-73 WHA season, the Houston Aeros inaugural year. The Montreal Canadiens selected Grierson in the 3rd round of the 1968 NHL Amateur Draft. Grierson never cracked the Canadiens powerful lineup, instead spending several seasons playing in the minors across the CHL, AHL, WHL and IHL. This Toronto native signed on with the WHA’s Houston Aeros and played in every game during the WHA’s inaugural season. Grierson suited up with the Aeros the following season as Gordie Howe and his sons joined the team. Later that spring, Grierson and the Aeros celebrated winning the Avco Cup Championship. The Avco Cup winning series proved to be Don’s last with the Aeros as he went on to finish his career with a couple more minor league seasons.

Sewn into the hem of this gamer is The General tag. The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes and runs, inner pilling and some team-sewn repair work. Grierson played in all 78 of the Aeros games during the WHA’s inaugural season. Don scored 22 goals and added 22 assists for 44 points to go along with 83 PIMS while wearing this jersey on home ice. A terrific example worn at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, Texas during the WHA’s inaugural season, choice!
