1971-72 Ted Green Boston Bruins Game Worn Jersey - Stanley Cup Season
Lot #19

This road black dureen gamer by Wilson was worn by Ted Green during the 1971-72 Stanley Cup winning season, his last as a member of the Boston Bruins. Green spent his entire NHL career as a member of the Boston Bruins, spanning 11 seasons from 1960-61 thru 1971-72. He then bolted to the WHA in search of the larger contracts being offered to current NHL stars by the newly forming league. Green played in the WHA for all 7 of their seasons in existence. His first 3 years were spent with the hometown New England Whalers, while his final 4 years were spent with Bobby Hull and the Winnipeg Jets. During his WHA years, Green’s leadership helped his teams to 3 Avco Cup titles!

Green was a feared defenseman who obtained the nickname “Terrible Ted” for a reason. Triple digit PIMS totals were the norm during much of his career in Boston. Despite his lack of scoring, Green played in 2 NHL All Star games and was named a 2nd Team NHL All Star in 1969. Ted is well known for having suffered one of the worst injuries in NHL history. In the 1969-70 pre-season he engaged in a stick swinging duel with Wayne Maki of the St. Louis Blues and suffered a fractured skull that left him paralyzed and near death. The fire within, and the encouragement of his teammates, lifted Green through a lengthy rehab, shocking the hockey world as he returned to the NHL, playing with a metal plate in his skull.

Green’s devastating injury caused him to miss his team’s first Stanley Cup title in the spring of 1970. Offered here is Green’s road sweater from the 1971-72 season, his only Stanley Cup winning year! The game wear on this stunning road black dureen is solid and consists of stick marks, board burns, exterior pilling, gobs and gobs of inner pilling and a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. Bruins dureens from the Cup years are among the hobby’s most prized possessions. Offered here is a stunning all-original black example that was worn by this NHL All Star during his only Stanley Cup winning season and his last as a member of the Boston Bruins, choice!
