Description
1970's Pit Martin Chicago Blackhawks Pre-Season Worn Jersey
Lot #79

This home white dureen gamer by Wilson and Gunzo’s was worn by Pit Martin during the mid 1970’s during pre-seasons and practices. Martin’s NHL career began in 1961-62 with the Detroit Red Wings where he played for parts of 4 seasons before joining the Boston Bruins in 1965-66. He reprersented Boston for 2 years and then joined the Blackhawks in 1966-67. Martin became a staple on the Hawks and played for them for the next 11 years. He finished his career with a couple of seasons in Vancouver. Martin played in 4 consecutive NHL All Star games spanning 1971-74. He was the recipient of the Bill Masterton Trophy in 1970. So highly thought of was Martin that he was the principal component in the trade that brought Phil Esposito and Ken Hodge to Boston in 1967. During his 17-year career, Martin partook in 1101 games and netted 324 goals and 809 points. Sadly, Pit passed away in a snowmobile accident several years ago.

Sewn into the collar of this vintage dureen are the Wilson and Gunzo’s tags. The game wear on this crossover-collared sweater consists of numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired holes, heavy inner pilling and a handful of team-sewn repairs. Sewn into the hem of this gamer is the chain-stitched 74-year tag. Also worthy of mention are the old school garter style fight strap as well as a crest change. A nice piece of Hawks history that was worn by this 4-time NHL All Star during the prime of his career.
