Description
1970s Bob Kolari WHA Referee Game Worn Jersey
Lot #57

This red, white and blue gamer by Cosby was worn by Bob Kolari during his WHA officiating career, which spanned 1972-79. The WHA came calling for Kolari before they had ever played a game, signing up “The Show” as one of their original members. Kolari had earned a wonderful reputation in Major Junior and decided to take a chance on the start-up after turning down an offer by the NHL. Bob served as one of the WHA’s six full-time Referee’s, doing so for each of the fledgling leagues eight seasons.

Sewn to the left breast of this gamer is a stunning WHA chenille crest. Sewn into the collar are the Cosby and size tags. Sewn to the verso are the name and number, all trimmed in red and white tackle twill on blue tackle twill background. The game wear on this size 44 sweater includes some light washed out blood staining, just as you would hope for on a Referee’s gamer from the rebel league. These red and white striped WHA Referee jerseys have been quite a tough find for collectors over the years with this being just the second example we’ve had the pleasure to offer at Auction. This vintage gamer sports incredible eye appeal and still vibrant red, white and blue colors and would become an instant highlight on any WHA Wall of Fame!
