This road red mesh and knit gamer by Champion was worn by Serge Aubry during the 1970-71 AHL season. Aubry spent 2 years between the pipes with the Rochester Americans before beginning his WHA career in 1972-73 as an original member of the Quebec Nordiques. Aubry was Quebec’s starting goalie and played in 52 games during the inaugural WHA season. Over the following couple of seasons, Serge assumed the role of backup to Richard Brodeur. Aubry next played for the Cincinnati Stingers during their inaugural season before returning for one final year with Quebec, where again he backed up Richard Brodeur. It was during Aubry’s last WHA season that he won his only Avco Cup Championship, after which he retired.
The game wear on this size 48 sweater consists of stick and puck marks, board burns, crossbar paint transfer, inner pilling and a team-sewn repair. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Aubry wearing this exact jersey during the 1970-71 AHL season. Aubry spent 51 games between the pipes in 1970-71 for the Rochester Americans, wearing this sweater during road games in his first year in the AHL. This spectacular jersey entered our hobby from the personal collection of Serge Aubry nearly 15 years ago. This jersey features stretchy knit sleeve striping and sleeve cuffs, a sewn-on three-color Americans crest along with sewn-on shoulder stars and numbers. An exceedingly rare style, to our knowledge it remains the only one of its kind to exist in the hobby. A spectacular photo matched offering that originated from Mr. Aubry’s personal collection and is now nearly 50-years removed from the ice, choice!
