Description
1968-69 OPC Larry Cahan Los Angeles Kings Autographed Card – Deceased
Lot #542

Cahan began his professional career in the Maple Leafs organization, playing for the Leafs in 1954-55 and 1955-56 with some time spent in the AHL as well. Larry next suited up for the NY Rangers for parts of 3 seasons before spending 2+ years in the AHL and WHL. This would be a trend for Cahan, bouncing between the NHL, AHL and WHL. Larry would spend parts of 4 more seasons with the Rangers before playing 2+ seasons with the Vancouver Canucks in the WHL. Cahan was an inaugural member of the Oakland Seals before joining the LA Kings for 3 seasons. Larry finished his career with another season in the WHL with the Seattle Totems before 2 final seasons in the WHA with the Chicago Cougars.

On January 13, 1968, while playing with the Seals, Cahan was involved in an accident that caused the death of Bill Masterton. Masterton was carrying the puck up the ice at full speed, passing the puck just as Cahan and Ron Harris converged on him. Masterton was knocked backwards, hitting his head on the ice. 30 hours after his fall, Masterton died without ever regaining consciousness. To this day, Masterton is the only player to die from an on-ice hit. Cahan died on June 25, 1992 at the age of 58.

Our consignor went to a hockey game every night and had all autographs signed personally. The card and signature is beautiful.
